Dunaire Dines Out at All Island Cafe!

For our next Dunaire Dines Out, we'll be heading to the tropics for some delicious Jamaican food at All Island Cafe! All Island serves up some of the best Jamaican in all of metro Atlanta, and we're lucky to have it within walking distance...and what better place to be in the middle of winter?

Dunaire Dines Out At Pallookaville!

After a long wait and a whole lotta buzz, Pallookaville Fine Foods has finally opened in downtown Avondale Estates, and it's a HUGE hit! Celebrity chef, Jim Stacy, has filled the menu with World Famous Corn Dogs, Frankfurters, Kielbasa, Pork Burgers, and 3/4 pound NY-style sandwich stacks. Yep, you are NOT gonna want to miss this one!

Win A $20 Savage Pizza Gift Certificate At The Dunaire Fall Cleanup!

The Dunaire International Fall Festival is nearly here and it's time to get out and tidy up our neighborhood. Since first impressions are everything, we'll be really focusing on cleaning up the entrances on Collingwood and Kingswood, but we're looking for a big team of neighbors to pick up litter, cut back kudzu, and generally clean-up all around the community garden area. We will be working in conjunction with a team from the DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs.

We'll meet at the Dunaire Community Garden at 10am on Saturday, October 19th. We'll have garbage bags, recycling bags, gloves, etc.

And, one lucky clean-up participant* will win a $20 gift certificate from Savage Pizza in Avondale Estates, sponsored by Tony Nastri at Keller Williams Realty.

Dunaire Dines Out At New Era Cafe!

For our next Dunaire Dines Out, we'll be heading back over to New Era Cafe in Pine Lake! Warm and friendly owners, Hanna and Giday are looking forward to our visit and they'll be serving up delicious American and homemade Ethiopian food. The menu covers all bases with Philly Cheesesteaks, Quesadillas, Club Sandwiches, and Ethiopian Tibs and Doro Wot. You won't want to miss this one!

When: Friday, October 18th, at 6pm.

Where: New Era Cafe at 4600 Rockbridge Road in Pine Lake.

The Dunaire International Fall Festival Is Coming!

      

Festival!  Stranka!  Festa!  Festiwal!  Fiesta!  Tamasha! Le hoi!  Mahrajaan! 

The 4th annual Dunaire International Fall Festival will take place Sunday, October 20th, from 3 'til 6pm in the Dunaire Community Garden on Cheviot Drive. It'll be a great time for everyone to come out and celebrate the arrival of autumn, cooler weather, and our fantastic neighborhood!

All Dunaire residents, and their friends and families, are welcome, and there will be a lot of fun activities for our younger Dunaireans - pumpkin painting, a soccer goal kicking contest, arts and crafts, games, a bouncy house, international music, and more! We'll also have a community yard sale (to benefit the pool), and a photo booth.

And, all attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share at our international pot luck table! We're hoping to have another amazing table of food (like last year) to reflect the wonderful diversity of our neighborhood. The festival is FREE and all children MUST be accompanied by an adult!

Dunaire Dined Out at the Dunaire Community Pool!

After a long, rainy summer, the sun came out and Dunaireans enjoyed a picture perfect day of cooking out, swimming, and enjoying the end of summer at the pool!  A heartfelt special THANK YOU to the grillmasters, Virginia and Frances!  It was a great, great day to be a Dunairean. 

 

Dunaire Dines Out...at the Dunaire Community Pool!

The next Dunaire Dines Out will be a little different...more like Dunaire Cooks Out! We'll have hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, and refreshments for sale, and all proceeds will go towards to the Dunaire Community Pool fund.

When: Saturday, August 24th, 3pm 'til 6pm!

Where: At the Ron Barber Dunaire Community Pool!

How: Hamburger/Side/Drink or Hot Dog/Side Drink or Veggie Dog/Side/ Drink combos will be $5. Add an extra hamburger, hot dog, or veggie dog for just $2 more. Pool members swim for free. Non-pool members can swim for $5 per person. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

The Annual Dunaire Yard Sale!

Empty Your Garages! De-clutter Your den! Reclaim your basement! And make some $$$$$

Dunaire will be holding a neighborhood-wide Yard Sale this Saturday June 8th, from 8:00am 'til 1pm. The yard sale will be advertised in several local publications and websites to attract as many yard sale shoppers as possible.

All Dunaire neighbors should have received this month's Dunaire Dispatch regarding the event. If you wish to take advantage and participate in the yard sale, please e-mail DunaireNeighbors@aol.com. so we know who will be participating, and what types of items will be for sale (so we can include the information in the advertisements).

If you aren't selling, it'll be a great day to shop Dunaire!

Dunaire Community Garden Social

Come on out and meet your neighbors at our Community Garden. We are having out first Garden Social on Saturday, June 1st, at our Dunaire Community Garden from 7pm to 9pm for adults only.

We will be serving sweet tea and chips. If you would like an alcoholic drink, please feel free to bring you own.

Also, we are looking for neighborhood musicians who are interested in providing us with some entertainment that night.

Keep Dunaire Beautiful - THIS SATURDAY!

 

The Dunaire Maintenance and Beautification Committee would like to announce that Dunaire will be participating in the 2013 Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 27th, from 9am until 12pm!

The Dunaire Annual Spring Cookout!

Our annual Dunaire Neighborhood Spring Cook-Out will be held this Friday, April 12th, starting at 7pm at the Dunaire pool pavilion.

This is a great opportunity to get connected with your neighborhood and make some new friends. Come by anytime and enjoy food and drinks provided by the Dunaire Civic Association. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult guardian.

The Dunaire Easter Egg Hunt!

Saturday, March 30th, is the date for the 3rd annual Dunaire Easter Egg Hunt for our little Dunaireans. Children should arrive at the Dunaire Community Garden by 4pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults who wish to contribute are asked to supply plastic Easter eggs and goodies and arrive early (3:30pm) to help set up and hide eggs! To avoid any allergy concerns, please stick to non-food items (tattoos, stickers, erasers, etc.). Little goodies can be purchased at any of the dollar stores on Memorial Drive or our local CVS. So, bring your little ones and hop on over to the Dunaire Easter Egg Hunt! We'll see you there!

PRISM Meeting - Memorial Drive Economic Renaissance Discussion - THIS THURSDAY!

PRISM (Pride Rings In Stone Mountain) is a community organization and neighborhood advocacy group that serves the neighborhoods of "The Heart of DeKalb" including Dunaire.

All are invited to the next PRISM meeting, THIS COMING THURSDAY, March 14th at 7pm, where the topic of discussion will be "Memorial Drive Community Driven Economic Renaissance, Proactive vs. Reactive Involvement." There is A LOT happening on Memorial Drive, so don't miss your opportunity to find out about it and to have your voice heard!

Do Good Dunaire!

We all know that Dunaire is a fantastic place to call home, and we know that all the good that Dunaireans do to make it so!

Creative Loafing is gathering photos from good neighbors all over metro Atlanta for their "Do Good" photo gallery and this is a great opportunity for us to show everyone some of the great things about our neighborhood.

Dunaire Dined IN!

We tried a little twist with this month's Dunaire Dines Out, by dining IN!    A small, but lively, crowd of Dunaireans got take-out from The Fish Spot and met back and Tony and Joe's home for a nice evening of Dunaire neighborliness and really great food!

This month's Dunaire Dines Out will be a little bit different - we'll be dining IN instead of dining out!

We'll meet on Friday evening at 6pm at The Fish Spot at 5053 Memorial Drive (across the street from Office Depot). The Fish Spot is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and is getting rave reviews....but it doesn't have a dining room. So, we'll get it "to go" and meet back up and Tony and Joe's home at 3886 Bretton Woods Road.

When: Friday, March 8th, at 6pm

Where: The Fish Spot at 5053 Memorial Drive.

How: We'll meet at the restaurant, and everyone will be responsible for their own check - then we'll head back to Tony and Joe's home to enjoy our Fish Spot takeout!

Dunaire Dined Out at Kathmandu Kitchen!

Dunaire dined out at Kathmandu Kitchen in Clarkston, and a good time was had by all.   The food was fantastic and the company even better!  Stay tuned for Dunaire Dines Out events in the upcoming months at The Fish Spot, Lucy Habeshas Restaurant, our local Dunaire Wendy's, and the DeKalb Farmer's Market cafeteria. 

Dunaire Dines Out at Kathmandu!

We all know Dunaire is a great place to live, and one of our biggest assets is the incredible ethnic diversity of our area. And, along with great ethnic diversity comes great ethnic restaurants! So, for this Dunaire Dines Out event, we'll be sampling Nepalese cuisine at Kathmandu Kitchen & Grill in Clarkston!

For those that haven't yet been - the cuisine at Kathmandu is similar to Indian - but generally, less spicy. The atmosphere is definitely NOT upscale, but the food is great and they've received several good write-ups recently from local food critics.

When: Friday, February 15th, at 6pm.

Where: Kathmandu Kitchen and Grill at 926 Montreal Road in downtown Clarkston.

How: We'll meet at the restaurant, and everyone will be responsible for their own check.

Warm and friendly owners, Manna and Jameelah will be serving up delicious Mediterranean chicken, beef, and lamb shawarma, hummus, tabbouleh, and falafel - all with a little Eritrean twist. You definitely won't want to miss this one!

For our next Dunaire Dines Out, we'll be exploring local West African cuisine. Mina at Mina's West African Kitchen will be serving up delicious delicacies from Ghana, Nigeria, and Liberia. She's looking forward to our visit and has offered to serve up some samples first, so we get a feel for what to order. Mina says "if you like New Orleans food, you like West African!" You won't want to miss this one!

The 3rd annual Dunaire International Fall Festival was a fantastic time!  The warm autumn weather was perfect for pumpkin painting, soccer games, and bouncing in the bouncy house.  Thanks to the DeKalb County Fire Department, the little Dunaireans were able to check out a real fire truck - inside and out!   Dunaireans were even able to ride horses around the community garden, thanks to the kind folks at Snap-2it and their beautiful horses. 

The pot-luck table was overflowing with wonderful homemade foods from Bosnia, Ethiopia, Chile,  and regional favorites from across the United States.  Lance and Denise provided great tunes throughout the day, and Jennifer was an awesome pumpkin painter! 

We really want to thank EVERYONE who donated so much of their time, energy, and resources to make it such a fun time.  You all make Dunaire a truly outstanding place to call home!

The Dunaire International Fall Festival Is Coming!!

The 3rd annual Dunaire International Fall Festival will take place Saturday, October 27th, from 3 'til 6pm in the Dunaire Community Garden on Cheviot Drive. It'll be a great time for everyone to come out and celebrate the arrival of autumn, cooler weather, and our fantastic neighborhood!

All Dunaire residents, and their friends and families, are welcome, and there will be a lot of fun activities for our younger Dunaireans - pumpkin painting, temporary tattoos, arts and crafts, games, a bouncy house, international music, and pony rides! We'll also have a community yard sale (to benefit the pool), and a photo booth.

And, all attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share at our international pot luck table! We're hoping to have another great table of food (like last year) to reflect the wonderful diversity of our neighborhood.

Dunaire Dines Out at Savage Pizza!

Here we go again! Dunaire Dines Out at Savage Pizza in Avondale Estates!

When: Thursday, October 18th, at 6pm.

Where: Savage Pizza at 115 Laredo Drive in Avondale Estates.

How: We'll meet at the restaurant, and everyone will be responsible for their own check.

Who: All Dunaire residents and their families and friends are welcome!

PRISM - Pride Rings In Stone Mountain!

PRISM (Pride Rings In Stone Mountain) is a community organization and neighborhood advocacy group that serves the neighborhoods of "The Heart of DeKalb" including Dunaire. Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month, except for December.

The next meeting will have the following guest speakers, and all Dunaire residents are strongly encouraged to attend and get involved! Great things are happening 'round here.

give Crime Update.

• DeKalb County Solicitor ,Sherry Boston - What is the responsibility of this Office and how the Office works with the DeKalb Police Department.

Dunaire Fall Festival Volunteer Committee Meeting - This Sunday!

Our first meeting to plan the 2012 Dunaire Fall Festival will take place this Sunday evening, September 9th, at 7:00pm. We'll meet at Tony Nastri's home at 3886 Bretton Woods Road.

If you are interested in helping with the festival, a little or a lot, please stop by. Your time, energy, and ideas, will make it another great event! Refreshments will be served!

Dunaire Civic Association Meeting - This Tuesday!

The Dunaire Civic Association will meet Tuesday, August 7th, at 7:30pm, at the Indian Creek Baptist Church. Topics of discussion will include the Dunaire Pool, keeping Dunaire safe and secure, the Community Garden, property taxes and values, code violations, and general neighborhood improvement ideas. All Dunaire neighbors are encouraged to come find out what's going on in the neighborhood....we need your input!
